Gay West Hollywood and Los Angeles - Factory Opening

The Factory mega-nightclub (formerly Studio One and Axis) opened with a fantastic VIP gala last Tuesday. In attendance were more than 2000 of West Hollywood's elite, including Mayor John Heilman, Mayor Pro Tempore Jeffrey Prang, Councilman Sal Guarriello, and Steve Martin fresh off their success of the passage of the Sunset Millennium Project. Also in attendance were actor Danny Nucci from "Titanic", Linda Gray from "Dallas", Jack Plotnick of "Gods and Monsters", Chad Allen of "Doctor Quinn, Medicine Woman", Absolut artist Jon Planas, AIDS Activist Dana Miller, Genre magazine's Richard Settles, and Momma!!!

The original Factory was started by Frank Sinatra, Tony Curtis, Anthony Newley, and Sammy Davis Jr. - a little known fact is that the building once served as a machine parts factory for WWII and had a specially designed wood floor, which owners Sandy Sachs and Nate Goller have fully restored. Combine that with a multi-million dollar restoration including sound and lighting by E3 and High-End systems assembled in England by world renowned Martin Audio and you have The Factory!!

Designer Bruce Liebert has truly created a dance and social escape complex befitting the year 2000! Both Jeffrey Sanker and Sandy Sachs will be hiring great djs from the world over for men and girl nights.

As an AIDS activist myself, I was very pleased to see a fantastic raffle for the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF), with a prize of gift boxes containing several Elton signed items such as an Aida CD, a Lalique Elton angel, candles, Oliver People's limited edition eyewear, and an EJAF cap and t-shirt. Dana Miller's on the EJAF board so he had no trouble having Elton donate them for the cause.

Lastly, the place is only to be experienced to be believed; the hors d'oeuvres and staff were delish, and thanks to Brian Carter with Absolut Vodka who provided all of the libation, we partied like it is...1999!!!

For, I'm John Sheehan out on the Big City Beat in WeHo!!! Happy Holidays!!!
