Actress and Theatre Performer Laurie Metcalf, Star Wars Actress Carrie Fisher and Tennis Legend Martina Navratilova to Present Awards at Womens Night Gala
WHAT: The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Centers 19th Annual Womens Night L.A.s premiere social event for women honors female entertainment industry leaders, local female community leaders and a leading automaker for their service to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
WHEN: Saturday, March 9, 2002 7 p.m. Cocktail reception & silent auction 8 p.m. Dinner & Program
WHERE: The Beverly Hilton Hotel, 9876 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills
WHY: To raise funds for womens services provided at the Gay &
Lesbian Center, which include primary medical care, mental health
services, legal assistance, domestic violence counseling, family services and special programs for lesbian and gay youth and seniors. Each year, thousands of women find assistance and hope through the Gay & Lesbian Centers womens services.
Laurie Metcalf, three-time Emmy Award winner for her role as the emotionally needy sister in the hit TV series Roseanne, Obie Award winner and founder of Chicagos celebrated Steppenwolf Theater, will present the Creative Integrity Award to Jane Anderson (pictured right), award-winning writer and director.Carrie Fisher, best-selling author and screenwriter known for her role as Princess Leia in Star Wars and author of Postcards from the Edge, will present the Community Role Model Award to Nina Jacobson (pictured left), president of Buena Vista Motion Pictures Group.
Martina Navratilova, tennis legend, gay activist and womens hockey player, will present the Corporate Leadership Award to Subaru of America.
Fran Harris, ESPN and Lifetime Television announcer and member of the Houston Comets womens basketball team that won the 1997 WNBA Championship, will present the L.A.C.E. awards to local lesbian and bisexual women who have made significant contributions to the LGBT community.
