As predicted, the crowds came to the LA Pride festival on Sunday June 10, in record-breaking numbers, very similar to Saturday’s event. And like Saturday’s festival, the venue was oversold, overcrowded and some ticket holders were turned away after waiting for hours in line.

The situation is serious when power gays have no pull at the VIP entrance. The guest list was no exception to Fire Marshal law as a group of people holding VIP and media access lanyards were also blocked off from entering the festival once it had filled to capacity around 8pm that Sunday.

Beloved gay bar, the Mother Lode, believed to be the oldest gay bar in West Hollywood’s Boystown, revealed its new face just in time for LA Pride this weekend. And like a lot of the faces that we see in WeHo, the change is drastic.

The plywood that has covered the bar for the past 9 months or so, has come down to reveal an entirely different facade from its original storefront. Gone is the familiar face of yesteryear to welcome a new airy and open space with sliding glass doors and a much bigger patio. There is clearly still much work to be done, but Wehoans finally get a peek behind the bandages, so to speak.

Actress, comedian, and provocateur Kathy Griffin, was honored with a West Hollywood Rainbow Key Award at a ceremony on Tuesday, June 5, at the West Hollywood Council Chambers. She was recognized for being a fierce ally of the LGBT community and her tireless work for LGBTQ causes and HIV/AIDS services like Alliance for Housing and Healing, formerly known as Aid for AIDS, where she has helped raise more than $5 million as a host for the Best in Drag Show fundraiser.

In honor of the 2018 Pride celebration in West Hollywood on June 8, 9, and 10, the City of West Hollywood’s free shuttle to Hollywood and Highland, CityLineX, and the City’s free weekend nighttime and Sunday Funday ride, The PickUp, will get together and become “Pride Ride” for the weekend. Pride Ride will offer a safe and convenient way to and from rail service at Hollywood and Highland and destinations in the City of West Hollywood, travelling along Santa Monica Boulevard between Robertson Boulevard and La Brea Avenue at approximately 15-minute intervals.

In response to the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, Los Angeles LGBT Center CEO Lorri L. Jean issued the following statement:

"In its ruling today, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on narrow legal technicalities of the case, while reaffirming current discrimination protections for LGBT people at the state level. But at the same time, the justices opened a very dangerous door that could eventually condone legal discrimination against the LGBT community based on so-called religious grounds.

AIDS/LifeCycle® announced today that participants raised more than $16.6 million dollars—a record amount in the event’s history—to support San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the HIV/AIDS-related services of the Los Angeles LGBT Center. AIDS/LifeCycle remains the world's largest single event HIV/AIDS fundraiser. More than 2,300 cyclists pedaled out of Cow Palace this morning on the 25th year of riding to end AIDS with more than 650 volunteer “roadies” supporting them during the 7-day, 545-mile journey.
