LA Times - The Board of Supervisors today directed the Los Angeles County coroner to begin collecting data on sexual orientation and gender identity in an effort to track suicide rates and hate crimes against LGBTQ individuals.

Supervisors Kathryn Barger and Sheila Kuehl co-authored the motion, saying data can drive policy designed to protect at-risk communities. The board voted to approve the motion without comment.
