Sexual racism is a specific form of racial prejudice enacted in the context of sex or romance. Online, people use sex and dating profiles to describe racialized attraction through language such as "Not attracted to Asians." Among gay and bisexual men, sexual racism is a highly contentious issue. Although some characterize discrimination among partners on the basis of race as a form of racism, others present it as a matter of preference. In May 2011, 2177 gay and bisexual men in Australia participated in an online survey that assessed how acceptably they viewed online sexual racism. Although the men sampled displayed diverse attitudes, many were remarkably tolerant of sexual racism. We conducted two multiple linear regression analyses to compare factors related to men's attitudes toward sexual racism online and their racist attitudes more broadly. Almost every identified factor associated with men's racist attitudes was also related to their attitudes toward sexual racism. The only differences were between men who identified as Asian or Indian. Sexual racism, therefore, is closely associated with generic racist attitudes, which challenges the idea of racial attraction as solely a matter of personal preference.

"malign me and marginalize me, I am used to it " Quit your whining and improve yourself. I strongly suspect YOU are the issue, not your ethnicity. Bottom line is really quite simple, each one of us is responsible for being a good person. We cannot expect everyone on the planet to like us, or even accept us, but what we can do is continue to strive to be a better person. No one likes being around a whiner. No matter what they are whining! It is annoying and very unattractive! Woe is me. Woe is me. No one likes me because I am ..... whatever excuse you want to use! Be a more positive person and you just might attract more interesting people. But be prepared, not everyone with like you.

First of all "gay man"; this is not a formal forum, we all are relaxed in our grammar and syntax, so it is quite trifilling for you to point out that I ended a sentence with a preposition. But I guess your point was so bankrupt of any substance that you had to rely on something so nonsensical. And I do think that even at the level of attractiness is related to racism. It is related to the point I made earlier. If you think of success and wealth in this nation, it is typically connected to "whiteness" and if you think of poverty, crime, and despair, the image conjured is typically minority, black or hispanic. It is not the case, I do not think, that for example, Asians in Asia or Blacks in Africa did not find other members of their own race attractive historically. But once Europeans began exporting their culture and it became the dominant standard against which all things were measured, then it is no wonder that taste realgined themselves. As to the guy who thinks it is crazy to harp on this issue and that he already knows "more than enough about me", I can tell I am not saying anything that many others have not said. Its just a reality that so many in the mainstream community(ie white) refuse to confront. And quite frankly, many GBM who I know do not raise this issue in "mixed" company because they are so hungry to be accepted and embraced by you all. But, I can assure you that within our community it is known that we are marginalized. If anything, what I am pointing out, if used properly, will strengthen this community. You can continue to malign me and marginalize me, I am used to it from your ilk, it is your modus operandi, but if you embrace what I am saying, perhaps you can adjust your sensitivity, and render this community more cohesive and less fractured.

I'm a pretty good looking white guy (40's) and know my days of having my "pick" are numbered. If race doesn't do you in, AGE will! We're all headed for the undesirable bin when it comes to hooking up -- just by virtue of the passage of time. Oh, well! One good thing about getting older is that I do find myself attracted to more types of guys than I used to be. In fact, I'm even attracted to some guys who are in their 30's now! Maybe when I'm in my 50's I'll like an even larger group... Let's hope. One thing that Ricco said that I thought was worth commenting about is that gay black professional guys prefer whites to other blacks. It's true that asians seem to as well. I honestly don't know why most gay guys prefer whites (we all know it's true, so stop pretending it isn't). But whatever it is that causes that (I happen to think it's a genetic thing that is hard-wired in people for some reason), it AIN'T RACISM. If blacks and asians generally prefer whites (and some latinos, too) to members of their own race, it's obviously not racism. Really, it's not.

I hear more blacks use the word nigger than I have ever heard white guys. None of us can change if we were born Red Yellow Black White or Brown, or a mixture thereof. Each one of us deals with the cards we were dealt and tries our best to win at the game of life. If anyone is unhappy with their racial heritage they really just need to get over it! PS Ivy league graduates do not end sentences in prepositions! PSS threatening to use one another as target practice is not healthy! Deal with your hate and anger before you end up in prison! and if you are all that pretty you certainly will be a big ugly guys bitch!

I never said I hated whites. But the reality is you are the majority, and, as ivy league educated professional black, my choices are severely restricted. While I am attracted to men of many colors, who do you think I come across most in my daily life? As a GWM you likely have alot of professional men to choose from. As a GBM, I do not because most professional GBM are exclusively into whites, and of course most GWM are into other whites; it is like the pro ball players, once you have arrived, you need a white trinket to hang on your shoulder. And the reason why I say that blacks should not support gay rights is because of hypocrisy. You cannot say its not hypocrisy for you on the one hand to be clamoring the good people of California for equal rights and equal treatment, and on the other, to routinely call someone nigger in bars, online, and campus gay parties. I can accept rejection, but when I am routinely disrespected because of my race, yes I get angry. I will close by saying, if you are white, how could you even imagine that you are such an authority on the types of discrimination that minorities experience in this community?

When people write stupid things, like "I posted a fake picture", that would make you a liar I do believe. As someone said, have you thought it could be YOU, not your racial heritage, that could be the problem. I find this true in most cases. Whiners are going to be whiners no matter what. They simply cannot be pleased. They have some perverted sense of entitlement that simply is not realistic. The guy that posted no black should ever support a gay cause, then honey hit the road! Go back a few hundred years! Because I assure you Whites have been in the forefront of EQUAL RIGHTS for one and all. Don't ever believe black folks have done it alone! If you hate whites so much, then why do you come around? Because one is gay does not mean they have to accept every gay person on the planet. I am proud to say I am discriminating with whom I associate. No arseholes please! Who needs the aggravation? Haters will hate no matter what! It is in their very nature. I know a gay Mexican that hates gay Mexicans, and feels HE and HE only is exceptional! Delusional? He needs to be locked up! LOL!!! If I do not like you, in all probability it is because you are YOU!

------As a young man of mixed heritage (black, white, and Native American), frequently described by others as "beautiful", I find myself passed over time and time again by men of all races for white men. That's quite a contradictory comment. ------

Sad, I can echo those sentiments exactly. I have done the exact same experiments and seen the same results; that is precisely why I do not understand why a minority, especially black, would support any gay rights cause.

If you are so concerned about what people put in their ads, that is easily solved. Don't try to date from personal ads. If you are described as beautiful then get into circulation and find a guy that likes you for being you. But don't fault people for having preferences. That is their right. Historically people seek out people that are similar to themselves for partners. Gay or Straight. Just look around! I bet Tiger Woods never complains about being mixed race. He married a white girl, so his children will be Asian Black & White. Does Mariah Carey, Vanessa Williams, and hundreds of other mixed race folks complain? I do not think so! Go with what you have, because you cannot change it, and make the best of it. Since you are 'beautiful' use that to your advantage. Maybe work on the personality. I am sure you have preferences just like the rest of us. That is what separates us from bitch dogs! Speaking of, most people prefer pure blood breeds over mutts. So it occurs everywhere. Online dating sucks anyway! I've done it, and 99% of the time I throw back the fish! so to speak. We should not date from pictures on the internet, because as you admitted, you and hundreds of other gay men do it all the time, put a fake pic and then wonder why they are rejected. People lie on their profiles. People get professional photographers to take their pictures. Ads all over the net for such a service. A picture is NOT the person! Seeing them in person, smelling them, hearing them speak, seeing their demeanor, all those things make up a person. I know this drop dead good looking guy and he is as dumb as a box of rocks! BUT he is gorgeous. Gets lots of first dates. Rarely ever a second one! Until he finds a person that likes beautiful, but dumb, guys he will just have to deal with it. I told him to "get some learning boy" and he was offended! We must all do the best with what God has given us!

I don't know what to think about this whole topic of so-called "sexual racism". As a young man of mixed heritage (black, white, and Native American), frequently described by others as "beautiful", I find myself passed over time and time again by men of all races for white men. I've done online experiments where I'll upload a fake pic of an attractive white guy and his inbox/messages received will light up with lots of interested guys and compliments, yet, when it's me, it's always much fewer interested guys. Can this really be all about preference, or is something deeper going on here? I tend to believe the latter, especially since a large number of non-white men seem to show preference toward white men. Lastly, I find it incredibly off-putting and uncouth to state ones personal racial preferences in a profile -- if someone you find unattractive e-mails you, don't respond, but it's very rude and unneccessary to state those preferences publicly. Frankly, I'm disappointed that in 2009, a large number of gay men can't see beauty beyond a very narrow interpretation, and refuse to expand their horizons or seek to question their so-called preferences. Sad.

"It is the exact opposite of what the Talmud says, which is that all Jews are responsible for each other." Some people actually have it written that one takes cares of another. However, discrimination is rampant, now and forever, within the gay community. Fact of the matter is, we do not care about one another in reality. We only care if we can get in your pants and bonk your brains out! IF we actually find someone, and actually get into a relationship, and soon get bored, we want to 'open' the relationship. If we find someone within our exacting parameters, age, race, body type, pee pee size, et al, then we are happy for a short while. I know an older guy in Mississippi that had a live in 'boi' he moved in at 18 and several years later the 'boi' was put out to the curb as no longer young enough for Daddy. The young boy was not allowed to work, or go to school, or in any way better his life. He was at the beck and call of the man with the bucks, who paid for 100% of the young one's wants needs, desires and expectations. And Daddy got what he wanted, no matter how perverted it was! Now the not so young one, uneducated, no longer as young, no longer as pretty, is without any skills to face life on his own. He was perfectly happy to spend Daddy's money, drive expensive cars, live the high life, without realizing that Daddy would dump him! Now he cannot even get a date with someone his own age! Now is 10 or 15 years older, and not so cute anymore. He was not even bright enough to realize he really should be spending Daddy's money in a gym membership, or getting an education or working SOMEWHERE to have some way to earn a living. We sometimes go into relationships with our eyes wide shut! Both persons must carry their own weight, no matter if you are both 18 or 38 58 68 etc or one is financially more secure than the other. There is no free lunch! Gay "hook up" sites, [is that the most disgusting phrase ever!] ... sites are rampant for masseurs, right! or escorts, or whatever word wants to put on their pay for fun services. No matter how you put it, or what you call it, it is prostitution! Am I saying do not date someone because they do or do not have money, absolutely not! BUT love the person, not the money! I know another guy who actually adopted his much younger lover and put the lover on all documentation, houses, cars, life insurance etc. then the younger one promptly filed eviction on the Gentleman! and got it! Now the one that had all the financial stability is almost bankrupt and the adopted son/lover is living in high cotton! Get married??? Hmmmm? Adoption? Hmmm? Yes, my dears, all sorts of 'discrimination' is indeed rampant. Do we have the right to discriminate? Absolutely YES! But have the common sense to make sure you think with the head on your shoulders instead of the other one in your panties! Want to make your relationship "legal"? Find a great lawyer and form a LLP or LLC and make each person equally liable! Ageism, Sexism, Racism, whatever 'ism' certainly applies to the gay community. We are NOT the accepting love everybody liberals that we purport to be! We discriminate against one another more than the straight world could ever do to us! We are not amenable to hiring one another, we do not even like one another, we do not have respect for one another. How on earth can we expect the straight world to every accept us as equals. BTW what college offers the course "Straight Acting"? That one really boggles my mind! Why do we hate one another so much? Why do we discriminate against someone because of their age? or another character trait? WHY indeed! Because we are basically looking for the proverbial "Mr. Right" but not willing to do what it takes to really find him! or just as important, to keep him, be true to him. We prefer to mess around on the side. BTW the aforementioned boy that got adopted, is now dying of AIDS, and has not even had the decency to make his former partner, in fact adopted Dad, his beneficiary! So boys! THINK about your actions! Be a good person! OK you can still have your 'preferences' but at least be polite when you turn someone down! [Obviously if they get rude and push too hard, you can be rude right back! BUT! be careful, they may have a short fuse!] Is it so challenging to be nice? Just because someone is older than you, or has a different body type than you prefer, or has red hair, or purple hair or whatever trait you do not care for does not give you the right to be be mean to them.

?We are each entitled to our preferences in our sex partners for sure. These preferences can be based on height, weight, body mass, ethnicity, race, cock size, HIV status, masculinity ? these are all forms of discrimination that every person has a right to invoke when seeking a sex partner. If you screen on the basis of weight, it's thinism, by age, it's agism. If you screen by race, then yes, it's racist. There is no other way to look at it. This is actually a good thing. It's important to recognize racism in all its forms. The second part of the statement, the one seeking to deny racism is what bothers me the most. To screen sex partners on the basis of race is natural, to deny that it's racist is racism embodied,? said Kroner30." The problem with the term "racist" is that it's a loaded term. If you call somebody a "racist," it's solely perceived as a putdown of someone's character. This man explains that there is a perfectly acceptable use of the term "racist" which is not a putdown, merely a substitute for "sexual racial preference." I guess I agree with his conclusion, but I don't know that it will help to clarify people's true feelings if you lump people who only are capable of physical attraction to one race with the KKK. Because both are now under the umbrella of "racist." More interesting to me is the comments on masculinity. The reason so many gay men are insistent on masculine acting sex partners is because gay men have been raised fetishizing masculine acting straight men. What else did most of us experience as children, and who did we have as our first attractions? To just get over that is asking a lot, and it takes a lot of work. We need to be understanding about that.
