When Abe Gurko packed his bags and moved from New York City to Hollywood, he wasn’t leaving a career in the fashion industry to chase the usual dream of becoming a movie star.

“I wanted to be a mechanic to the machine called celebrity,” Abe said. “I wanted to know how it worked.”
Over the next few years, he developed his skills as a behind-the-scenes creative force by working on a couple of daily variety-talk shows and worked for several years with arguably the coolest woman in Hollywood, Carrie Fisher.

Lina Lecaro | From Lil Kim to Kesha to Azealia Banks to Fifth Harmony to Joan Jett to the Pointer Sisters, L.A. Pride’s concert component (organized by the nonprofit Christopher Street West) always boasts a powerhouse-driven and female-heavy bill. No surprise, as the LGBTQ+ community appreciates music diva fortitude and attitude better than anyone. And this year is no exception. L.A. Pride just announced its preliminary lineup, featuring two pop superstars on the festival’s mainstage: Kehlani (June 9) and Tove Lo (June 10) are both Grammy-nominated singers known for their honest and expressive approach to music.

CityLineX, the City of West Hollywood’s free mini-bus service for commuters, will operate special service on Saturday, March 24, 2018 for the Los Angeles March for Our Lives Rally, which will take place in Downtown Los Angeles — at 9 a.m., attendees will organize at 6th & Spring/6th & Broadway and at 10 a.m. the March will begin at 5th & Spring/5th & Broadway. CityLineX will connect West Hollywood residents to the Metro Red Line at Hollywood and Highland; event attendees can use the Red Line to reach the Pershing Square/5th Street Station. The March is expected to conclude by 2 p.m., but may be extended due to number of participants. The March and Rally will take place rain or shine.

Though to the uninitiated, the leather and fetish scene might seem like a dark and intimidating environment, L.A. Leather Pride organizer Gus Norris wants you to know that nothing could be further from the truth.

“You go to a couple of these events, and you realize these are just really warm and wonderful people who like to have a lot of fun.”

After a late night in West Hollywood’s many gay bars and clubs, patrons usually enjoy a stroll on Santa Monica Boulevard leading to the many LGBTQ+ stores the city has to offer, filled with unique t-shirts, fun knick-knacks and sex-themed novelty items. A huge part of what sets West Hollywood apart from other late-night hot spots in Los Angeles is its gay restaurants, stores and boutiques that keep the party going. One of those stores is the one and only Block Party WeHo, which had plans to shut down last year.

Yet Block Party WeHo, one of the city’s most iconic stores (proclaimed as “The gayest store on earth”), confirmed that it won’t be shutting down after its lease is up in a few months. The store will also carry Andrew Christian underwear and apparel on re-opening.

Kehlani and Tove Lo, will be headlining this year’s LA Pride Festival.

“Kehlani and Tove Lo are two of the most daring women in music today,” says Gregory Alexander, CSW Board Member and Programming Lead for the 2018 LA Pride Festival. “We’re excited to see how they’ll lead the raw and authentic voice of this year’s festival. They embody everything we mean when we say #JUSTBE at LA Pride.”

Kehlani and Tove Lo will be joined by a diverse lineup of artists across the Festival’s three stages (more performers to be announced soon!).
